Dora, car, ball, baby

Orlaith’s language is coming on well. Must say we find it a little disconcerting that one of her first words is Dora (for those of you who don’t have toddlers, Dora the Explorer is as big as Dallas was to us 70’s kids growing up… only more wholesome). We have been settling in, meeting people, mowing the lawn and checking out some of the mini festivals that run in lots of Irish towns and villages over the summer. A nice, if somewhat surreal festival was the medieval event in Killmallock, complete with loads of blokes in tights and woolly animal scarves recreating the various battles we suffered all those years ago. There was also a puppet show (less medieval, more like kids… eat fruit and veg) and a predator bird show which was fine, until when we were leaving a huge eagle swooped down very close to Eva’s head (she was on my shoulders). I was more shocked that Eva. Maybe she has an ancient soul? We also took in a fantastic arts festival in Terryglass which had some great kids events, including a very large pig with a show inside.

Orla begint al een beetje te praten. Ze zegt al car, ball en baby. Een van haar allereerste woordjes was Dora, de naam van een tekenfilmfiguur waar Eva helemaal gek van is. We hebben er boekjes en pennen en popjes van, en Orla doet alles na wat Eva doet, dus is ze ook helemaal fan.
De Ierse nazomer is net zo nat als de afgelopen zomermaanden zijn geweest, dus veel nieuws hebben we niet te melden, we zijn niet veel buiten de deur geweest (want dan spoel je meestal meteen weg).
