Finn’s first month

Finn is almost 4 weeks now and is doing very well. He continues to put on lots of weight (just like the rest of us) and is slowly getting better at sleeping during the night. It has been a busy few weeks, with lots of visitors and cups of coffee.



First off was Padge and Goose who came down for the Easter weekend to see Finn. Under Padge’s guidance Finn (and the rest of us) was introduced to all things mechanical, vintage and farm related at the Tipperary Vintage Show on Easter Sunday. It was Finn’s first major outing (not yet a week old) and he loved checking out the classic rally cars from the 70s, the car Padge wooed Goose in all those years ago and a collection of engines from the 1920s, which no one seemed to know what they were used for, but there were old and made lots of noise.



Eva and Órlaith were taken more with the dog show and the amusements.



Fergal (who will be Finn’s godfather and master of assembling trampolines), Louise and the kids came out one beautiful morning and we sat in the garden with sweet things and coffee. Leftover Easter eggs and swings, slides and bouncing kept all the small ones happy.



Joke and Diny arrived shortly afterwards from the Netherlands for a few days to check out the new off-spring and to hang out with the old off-spring too. Eva and Órlaith loved having Joke and Diny around, playing in the garden and doing all the puzzles they brought over. One of the days we headed out to Adare Manor for coffee and a stroll in the beautiful gardens. Fantastic place and once the lotto comes in we must go back.



All Ellen’s new buddies from the village popped in to see Finn and some of Paul’s friends from work called by also. With some repairs to the shed (just before it was likely to fall down) and one major gardening project (we don’t generally garden as such, rather we just cut things down) Paul’s four weeks off came to an end. The gardening project in question was the planting of an apple tree, a gift from Eoghan, a fellow Newporter and colleague of Paul’s, to Finn.



Finn’s eerste maand



Finn is bijna vier weken oud en het is zijn drukke weken geweest. Zoals het natuurlijk hoord was er veel bezoek en veel kopjes koffie! Als eerste kwamen Paul’s ouders Padge en Goose langs om hun tiende kleinkind te bewonderen. Het was toevallig net het Paas weekeinde, waarin ieder jaar de grote Tipperary Oldtimer Show wordt gehouden. Het werd Finn’s eerste evenement; onder leiding van Padge liepen we een par uur lang langs allerlei oude boerderij machines en oldtimer auto’s – zijn commentaar: ‘deze hadden wij vroeger ook op de boerderij’, en ‘zo’n auto had ik toen ik verkering had met je moeder’. Eva en Orla vonden vooral de honden show erg leuk, en genoten van de kermis.



Een paar dagen later kwamen Fergal en Louise langs met hun twee kinderen Chloe en Shay. Fergal zal Finn’s peter worden als Finn volgende maand wordt gedoopt. Het was die dag heerlijk lente weer en we hebben lekker in de tuin kunnen zitten terwijl de kids schommelden en tramoline sprongen.



Niet lang daarna kwamen Joke en Diny uit Nederland. Het is bijna een traditie; Joke en Diny kunnen gewoon niet ontbreken als er weer een klein Sherlockje wordt geboren. Ze hebben natuurlijk niet alleen tijd met Finn door gebracht maar beide ‘meters’ hebben ook de kans gehad om veel met Eva en Orla te spelen. Die genoten van het bezoek; er werd veel geschommelt en met de nieuwe puzzels gespeelt. We zijn ook met zijn allen nog een ochtend naar het prachtige dorpje Adare geweest en naar Adara Castle, een prachtig kasteel dat tegenwoordig als hotel wordt gebuikt.



De afgelopen weken hebben we ook nog bezoek gehad van al mijn nieuwe Newpoortse vriendinnen gehad, en een hele gezellige brunch met Paul’s collega’s en hun kinderen. Verder hebben we ook nog tijd gevonden voor een beetje doe-het-zelven en tuinieren: Paul heeft het tuinschuurtje opgeknapt en alle conniferen in de tuin behoorlijk ingekort. Het leukste tuin project was het planten van een appelboom die Finn als kado ontving van Eoghan, een college van Paul.



Zoals je op de foto’s kan zien vinden Eva en Orla het ook heerlijk om bezig te zijn in de tuin- dat zullen ze wel van oma Pieterse en van Diny hebben!
