Christmas Trip

We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, we certainly did! We came back yesterday, on the 30^th, and we’ve got some lovely snaps to share with you. We had Christmas in a cottage on a farm called Kisolanza. The place had more than 200 cows and we stayed close to the stables, Eva loved watching them as they walked passed on their way to the field. It was a lovely place, the food was great and it was a little cooler than Dar, we slept under a blanket (and Eva in her sleeping bag), how exciting!

On Stephen’s day we drove to Ruaha National Park, where we stayed at a fabulous lodge called Mwagusi. Our room overlooked an almost dry riverbed where animals came to drink at the few remaining water holes. It is a beautiful park with tonnes of baobab trees and lots of animals. We came across ten lions in total, a fraction of the total but still a very impressive count. Eva found it hard to get to sleep in the strange new environment some nights, crying a bit as she was in her carry-cot beside us while we were having dinner in the riverbed. This caused us a few worries, as the owner of the camp explained that crying babies attract leopards… We didn’t get to see any leopards, luckily, but I’m sure that they’ll be roaming the safari camp
for weeks looking for that baby!

Kerstreis

We hopen dat jullie een gezellige kerst hebben gehad. Wij hebben een hele mooie reis gemaakt en we zijn gisteren, op 30 december terug gekomen, hierbij een paar foto’s. Kerst hebben we doorgebracht op boerderij Kisolanza, we hadden er een heel schattig cottage gehuurd. Ze hebben er meer dan 200 koeien en Eva vond het prachtig om ze voorbij te zien komen opweg naar de wei. Het was een hele gezellige plaats om kerst te vieren, ze hadden er een heerlijk kerstdiner georganiseerd en het was er zo fris dat we onder een deken sliepen (en Eva in haar slaapzak). Dat is voor ons heel wat!

Op tweede kerst zijn we naar Ruaha National Park gereden, waar we 3 nachten door hebben gebracht in het prachtige Mwagusi ‘safari kamp’. Onze kamer/tent keek uit op een bijna droge rivier waar dieren uit de laatste plassen water kwamen drinken. Het is een heel mooi park, met heel veel baobab bomen en ontzettend veel wilde dieren. We zagen in totaal 10 leeuwen. Eva vond het wat moeilijk om s’avonds in slaap te vallen, en ze huilde nogal eens tijdens het avondeten (we hadden haar in haar draagbare wieg naast onze tafel staan). Dit was niet zo best, want de eigenaar van Mwagusi vertelde ons dat huilende babies luipaarden aantrekken. Gelukkig zijn we geen luipaarden tegengekomen.
